Tuesday evening, on his sofa
He doesn't apply elsewhere the next day.
Two minutes on his sofa,
and you have his number.
He's keen, and he still gives up
He's asked for an account and a password before anyone even knows his first name
He uploads his CV, and is asked to retype by hand everything that's already in it
His CV is on his girlfriend's computer, he has nothing on his phone, he puts it off until tomorrow
He's asked for a cover letter to fit radiators
The page isn't made for a phone: he zooms in, taps the wrong thing, closes it
of low-skilled jobs are decided on attitude, not on the CV
of hires only are decided on the qualification
of French people have a smartphone: that's the screen he applies on
France Travail, Besoins en main d'oeuvre 2026: 2.275 million planned hires, 43.8 per cent difficult. France Travail, Éclairages et Synthèses no. 43, March 2018, 4,850 establishments: qualification 11 per cent of hires, attitude 49 per cent of low-skilled jobs. You decide, step by step, what you hand over
Here's Karim's application, step by step. For each one, say whether it goes through Atlas® or stays as it is today, then run the simulation.
He lands with you, not on a platform
Your name, your colours, the photo of the workshop. No unknown logo, no registration. He understands in two seconds that he's writing to a boss, not a machine.
Three questions, three taps of the finger
The driving licence, the years in the trade, the date he can start. Buttons, not boxes to fill in. He answers with one hand, the other holds the phone.
One line in his own words
What he can do, as he'd say it at the counter. The CV is still possible if he has it to hand, never compulsory, and his number fills in by itself.
Sent, and he knows it's gone
A confirmation screen, then a message in his name within the minute. He doesn't wonder whether it worked, and he doesn't apply elsewhere the next day.

Ten minutes decide everything
He sees your advert and clicks
Elsewhere. Create an account, a password, confirm by email. He hasn't said a thing about himself yet.
At yours. The form opens. Four questions, two minutes announced, no account.
He's asked for his CV
Elsewhere. Upload a CV. His is on his girlfriend's computer, and it dates from 2019.
At yours. CV optional. He taps: driving licence, over 5 years, available within a month.
Retyping by hand
Elsewhere. Step 3 of 6: retype his employers and his dates, everything the CV contained.
At yours. One line in his own words about what he can do. His number fills in by itself.
The last step
Elsewhere. Cover letter required. He closes the tab. You'll never know he existed.
At yours. Sent. You have his name, his number and four facts. He gets an acknowledgement straight away.
Four answers are worth more than a CV
What you're looking for fits in three or four facts, not a page of CV.
Have you ever gone out alone on a boiler call-out? Yes, no, or always with a supervisor. You know whether he can take a job on Monday. Eight years in the trade written on a CV won't tell you that.
Can you start at 4 am, or at 6 am? It's the hours that break hires in a bakery, not the skill level. Asked plainly, it rules out by itself the one who won't last three weeks.
Have you ever handled a 60-cover service? A full service can't be described, it has to be lived. You know whether he can hold the floor on Saturday night or needs two weeks of support.
An easy form brings in more people, including some who are off target. One or two knockout questions, driving licence or night shifts. The rest goes into Sorting the applications received.
What the form brings you
Advert opened 60 times a week. Four questions, no account or CV, and one in ten shortlisted.
