He says no to the subscription, and he's thinking of his gym
He comes every month, a subscription would save him money. He refuses: fourteen months paid for a gym he never went to. What unlocks his yes is the way out.
Hugo, at Maison Victor twice a month
A subscription? He thinks of his gym, fourteen months paid for nothing.
Over a year, for Hugo
312 € kept in his pocket, and never a week without a slot
And the day he wants to stop: one click, confirmed in writing, no fees.
He pays less, he has his slot,
and he knows how to leave.
The defensive reflex
He paid fourteen months for a gym he no longer went to, because cancelling meant a recorded-delivery letter.
He doesn't understand how you can join in three clicks and have to cancel by post.
He found a €19 direct debit while going through his bank statement.
He looked for the button to stop, and found it nowhere.
His contract was renewed without warning, and he was told it was too late.
of contracts with unlawful or unfair clauses, and as many that failed to inform the customer properly before signing. DGCCRF (French consumer watchdog), 571 businesses inspected in 2022 and 2023, 390 warnings, 785 orders.
You decide, step by step, what you hand over
Here's Julien's subscription, step by step. For each one, say whether it goes through Atlas® or stays as it is today, then run the simulation.
He reads the offer in six lines, then subscribes in three clicks
The amount, what's included, how to stop. Then first name, phone, card: forty seconds, no account and no paperwork.
Every month, he's told before the money is taken
A message three days before, with the amount and the date. No payment takes him by surprise, so none of them annoys him.
The day he wants to stop, he stops
The button is on his screen, not at the end of a phone number. One click, one confirmation, and the month he's started stays his.

The month he joins, the month he comes, the month he leaves
Julien used to come to the salon every two months, €45 each time. The third moment is the one that counts.
He hesitates, and he tries
Elsewhere. Twelve months' commitment, and the word cancellation written nowhere. He closes the page and will carry on paying €45 as he goes.
At yours. Two lines he reads in full: no minimum term, cancel in one click. He takes a month, to see.
He no longer gets his card out
Elsewhere. He compares, he puts it off, he spaces it out. Two months between visits, sometimes three.
At yours. He comes, he goes, nothing to pay at the counter. Three visits, €25.50 saved, written on his screen. He no longer gives it a second thought.
He leaves on good terms, so he comes back
Elsewhere. He looks for the button, calls, gets voicemail, ends up blocking the direct debit at his bank. He'll never come back.
At yours. One click on Stop, a written confirmation within the minute, and the month he's paid for stays his. He leaves on good terms, and comes back in September.
An easy way out is what fills the way in
The subscription you can't get out of
- Twelve months' commitment, and a renewal that goes round for another twelve
- No button to stop: recorded delivery, notice period, fees
- Not a word before the renewal, then it's too late
- The month started is charged, and access cut off the same day
The one he leaves in one click
- No minimum term: he stops at the end of any month, whenever he likes
- Cancel in three clicks, visible button, no account needed: article L215-1-1 of the French consumer code, decree of 31 May 2023
- Told before any renewal, article L215-1, Chatel law: otherwise he cancels free of charge and is refunded within 30 days
- Subscribed remotely, 14 days to change his mind, article L221-18, and the month he's paid for stays his in full
It's counter-intuitive and it's true: what you lose in lock-in, you gain in yeses. Will they accept: yes if the way out is written down first. Will I lose a lot: a capped plan, one appointment a month, non-transferable. One restaurant owner stopped within six months, tables blocked. For my trade: yes for hairdressing, beauty, car washing, a stable spend. No for tradespeople.
What the subscription brings you, every month
A customer who came every other month at €45 was worth €22.50 a month. Subscribed at €39, he comes every month.
