Clocking in without a clock on the wall, from each person's phone

Everyone clocks in on arrival and out on leaving: phone, tablet or badge. The counter climbs, you're warned before any overrun, and the month's count is written on the evening of the 31st.

Set-up: half a day, nothing to drill into the wall.

You recognise these lines

Hours are written in a notebook, or not written at all. Your employees don't all have the same hours. You discover the overtime when it has to be paid. At the end of the month, it's your memory against theirs. If an inspection comes tomorrow, you have nothing to show.

02Do the sums yourself

You decide, step by step, what you hand over

Here's what becomes of a timesheet, from clocking in in the morning to the accountant. At each step, say whether you keep doing it or Atlas® takes it on: the counters recalculate before your eyes.

A week of clocking in, step by step
Keep everythingHand over everything
1

The employee clocks in, the timesheet writes itself

On arrival and on leaving: phone, tablet in the changing room or contactless badge. A start time, an end time, the breaks, nothing else.

YouAtlas®
2

The counter climbs, compared with the contract

The employee sees their counter just as you do, at the same time. A missed clock-in gets corrected, and the correction is logged and named.

YouAtlas®
3

The alert goes out before the overrun

The threshold is yours: contract, weekly ceiling, eleven hours' rest. The message goes out while the rota can still move, not on the evening of the 31st.

You review, and you decide

Moving the rota or paying the overtime rate is your decision. Payroll stays with your accountant.

04What the Code says

Without a count, the employee is in the right

Three rules, and they aren't up for discussion. French Labour Code, Articles L3121-18, L3121-20, L3121-22, L3131-1, L3132-2 and L3121-36, consulted on code.travail.gouv.fr. These ceilings can't be watched from memory: they have to be counted.

L3171-4the dispute

The hours are your responsibility

Without a count, the judge sides with the employee.

L3171-2and D3171-8

Different hours within the team

Daily record, weekly summary.

R3173-2the penalty

Without these documents

Class 4 offence, per employee.

Clocking in isn't surveillance. This module watches nobody: it guarantees everyone is paid for what they've done.

05Said plainly

Clocking in isn't surveillance

What it doesn't do, and won't do

  • No biometrics: no fingerprint, no face, no hand shape
  • No location tracking, neither during the shift nor after
  • No reading of what the employee is doing: no screen, no keystrokes, no pace
  • No score, no ranking, no team league table

What's written in the contract

  • Each employee sees their counter, at the same time as you
  • The team is informed before set-up, and the works council consulted where one exists
  • The system is reliable and tamper-proof, as required by Article L3171-4
  • The records stay with you, and are deleted after the set periods

No fingerprints, no geolocation.
Fingerprints: reserved for access control, standard regulation of 28 March 2019. A badge is enough.
Location: the CNIL allows it only when there's no other means, and this module is one.
